Year 2. Puffins and Kingfishers

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome back from your Easter holiday, we hope you enjoyed the break and are rested and ready to learn.

As part of our pirate themed work and to compliment the History curriculum we will be taking part in a workshop on Wednesday 20th May 2026. For the full pirate experience, we are asking children to come to school dressed as pirates. Further details will be sent by SchoolsBuddy shortly.

Other dates for diaries:

Nature reserve trip - Thursday 4th June

Henry Ford DT Sessions - 9am - 10am 17th June Kingfishers/18th June Puffins. An adult will be invited to attend the session to work with children to build a vehicle. At home you may wish to begin collecting materials such as boxes to build with.

Music festival - Thursday 25th June

Sports Day - Friday 3rd July

Year 2 Graduation - 16th July

PE Days

Please ensure all earrings are removed and hair is tied up.

Homework

Homework will be sent out on Thursday and is due back on Tuesday.

Maths homework will be completed on Doodle Maths, login details will be sent home in book bags. English will be detailed on the weekly overview and is to be completed in the homework book. Spellings will be sent home weekly, tests will be in class on Friday morning.

Times Table Challenge

Every half term we will focus on a new times table. We will practise this in class and would encourage it at home also. This term, as we have now covered our 2, 5 and 10 times table, we will have a mixed test. Those who achieve full marks will receive a certificate in assembly.

Daily Reading

To promote the importance of daily reading, children in Year 2 can earn reading certificates which they will receive in assembly. They can progress from Bronze for 25 reads, Silver for 50, Gold for 100, Platinum for 200, right through to Diamond for 300 reads. Only one read is counted per day, unless they also read with a school adult. Please remember to sign your child's reading record to ensure they achieve their goal.
